Nelson's Column is a monument in Trafalgar Square in central London built to commemorate Admiral Horatio Nelson, who died at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The monument was constructed between 1840 and 1843 to a design by William Railton at a cost of £47,000. It is a column of the Corinthian order built from Dartmoor granite.

This place used to pump all the sewage out of London during the victorian age. It was built after the "Great Stink" of 1858 and was operational up until the 1950's. During it's time it was an engineering marvel as well as featuring some beautiful ironwork that you can see in the Octagon here. It was derelict for decades but has been partially restored recently and you can see one of the steam pumps in operation on one of their open days.
